Whew! Even though we've been in school 4 weeks now, I still feel like I'm living a day or two behind! I always forget how crazy these first months are! We have settled into our routines for the most part, so we're digging in deep in reading and math!
This week, we focused on characters and sequence in reading. We used The Three Little Pigs to help us do this. I don't know why {I guess because I grew up hearing these stories}, but it amazes me how many children don't know classic fairytales! The one benefit though, is that I have a captive audience when I read them! We did lots of activities with the classic version and other versions of the story, but I only got just a few pictures of what we did {you can get these in my 3 little pigs pack}.
We sequenced the pigs and what they used to build their houses.

We compared the wolf from the traditional story with the wolf from The True Story of the Three Little Pigs.

We also very quickly compared the endings of all 3 stories we read {don't judge the chart...sometimes you gotta keep it real and show you didn't have time to make it fancy!}
In math, we focused on the number 4 and rectangles. We used our good friend Pete and his 4 groovy buttons all week to help us decompose, count on, and learn all we could about the number 4!

We also made our number 4 little guys and they turned out great! {these are part of my Nifty Numbers pack}
For rectangles, we sorted shapes and made our rectangle person. My kids look forward to these each week! {These are part of my Shape Up pack}

This week we're moving on to the farm and number 5. Hope you have a great week!
We have had a jam packed week learning all about the pilgrims and we have had so much fun {while learning a lot too!}.
We started the week by reading about the pilgrims' voyage on The Mayflower. My kids thought it was disgusting that the pilgrims had no bathroom or shower on the ship! We made a big Mayflower to hold all of our facts we wrote together during shared writing, then we each made our own Mayflower. We wrote about what we would take with us if we were on the Mayflower voyage. {You can get this activity in Deanna Jump's Thanksgiving Pack}

We also read lots of informational texts about the pilgrims and pilgrim life. We made these super easy pilgrims to hold our graphic organizer {you can get the organizer in Caitlin Clabby's November Unit}.

We also compared pilgrims with people that live today. We used April from Chalk Talk's headers to create our Venn Diagram. Then, we sorted pictures by the time period they were from.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we also talked about all we are thankful for. We started by reading one of my very favorite books {and if you are a mom of a little one, you have to have this book at home as well!}.
Then, we charted all we are thankful for and picked one thing that was our most thankful thing to write about. You can get the writing sheet here on google drive. :)

Last, if you're needing a little motivastion to get your kiddos to learn those pesky sight words, this is a SUPER simple, easy game that my little ones love to play! They beg me everyday to play! All you do it split the class into two teams {we do boys versus girls and are keeping up with who wins the most games now through the end of November}. Then draw some turkey bodies. Each time a team gets a word right, they get a feather. Easy, right? It's also an easy review of counting and more/less.
That's it guys. I'm off to enjoy my 3 day weekend. We're getting Veterans' Day off for the first time ever! Enjoy your weekend!
Tonight's post is a bit of a hodge podge catch up of what we did at the end of last week and what we're starting on this week. We just got back from our third (out of six) baby class, so I am wiped out! I will say that God has definitely blessed me with some sweeties this year that work really well with my somewhat strict/very routine/all about procedure teaching self and we are already into good habits with happy kids and a happy teacher. Here's what we've been up to:
Our 5 senses faces - this idea came from Little Giraffes {I love everything on that site!}

Wiggly eyes, jingle bell ears, sandpaper hands, gum tongue, and cotton ball spritzed with perfume nose

Chicka Chicka Name Trees...idea also from Little Giraffes
Today, we started reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We sequenced what Goldilocks did in the bears' house together first.

Then, the kids sequenced on their own
 The 3 bears activities are from my friend Deeanna's new pack that is so cute. Check it out here. We will be working on more 3 bears stuff this week from her pack as well as working on the number 3 and triangles. Hope everyone is having a great week!

This week was all about penguins...here's a peek at what we did

You can find the Tacky pattern here. Have a great weekend...and if you're trying to work ahead, you can find my Groundhog Games here and my new Valentine's pack here.
