It is just me or is the school year already going by at warp speed? Maybe it just feels that way because it seems like I can never get caught up!! Last week, we learned about the number 5 with the five little ducks and with our five senses.

First, we introduced our 5 senses with this little anchor chart {thanks to Pencils, Glue and Tying Shoes for the idea!}.
Then, we each made our own to help us remember our senses. We used wiggly eyes for sight, jingle bells for hearing, sandpaper for touch, a cotton ball with lotion for smell, and a stick of gum {that melted a little over the weekend} for taste. They turned out so cute!

To help us learn about our sense of tatse, we also did our taste test again. We tasted limes, bittersweet chocolate, m&ms, and pretzels. We have an awesome new principal this year who bought all of the supplies for the taste test for all 17 of the kindergarten teachers!! I've never had a principal buy the random stuff I needed, so we are very appreciative to have her!

After deciding if we liked each taste or not, we graphed our favorites {I don't have a picture :( }. You can get the pieces for the graph and the taste test page here.

We also used my friend Deeanna's pack that includes lots of 5 Little Ducks activities...the kids loved these!
Acting out the song on the ten frame

Writing equations while we acted it out

Counting on to make 5

Using a mat and individual ducks to act out the story {we also wrote the equations on a recording sheet with this}

We introduced math sticks!! We love using these each week to help us decompose numbers...we sang the song and moved ducks then used our stick to help us make the equation

Love these!

Moving on to this week...it's one of my favorite weeks of the year!! Here's a little sneak peek...

Tonight's post is a bit of a hodge podge catch up of what we did at the end of last week and what we're starting on this week. We just got back from our third (out of six) baby class, so I am wiped out! I will say that God has definitely blessed me with some sweeties this year that work really well with my somewhat strict/very routine/all about procedure teaching self and we are already into good habits with happy kids and a happy teacher. Here's what we've been up to:
Our 5 senses faces - this idea came from Little Giraffes {I love everything on that site!}

Wiggly eyes, jingle bell ears, sandpaper hands, gum tongue, and cotton ball spritzed with perfume nose

Chicka Chicka Name Trees...idea also from Little Giraffes
Today, we started reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We sequenced what Goldilocks did in the bears' house together first.

Then, the kids sequenced on their own
 The 3 bears activities are from my friend Deeanna's new pack that is so cute. Check it out here. We will be working on more 3 bears stuff this week from her pack as well as working on the number 3 and triangles. Hope everyone is having a great week!

You can get the recording sheet and graphing pieces {some graphics Scrappin Doodles and Lettering Delights} by clicking here {it's a freebie}. Let me know if you're able to use it :). Happy almost Friday!
With only 7 days of school under our belts (we were out yesterday for Isaac and of course it was sunny all day and rained when we went back today), I am very impressed at how well my kiddos are adapting to our routines and procedures. They are really doing a great job and we are getting a lot accomplished!

The literacy centers above can all be found in my TpT store:

I hope your back to school is going well....my only complaint is how swollen my feet are! Any moms out there who teach have any good remedies for keeping the swelling down while being very pregnant and on your toes all day with kindergarten kids??
