Really Good Stuff Nomination and Some Freebies!

I just checked my email and was shocked to see that I have been nominated and am a finalist for Really Good Stuff's Education Blog Award! I was shocked, especially considering the other blogs nominated are soooo good (Chalk Talk, Kindergarten Crayons, Miss Kindergarten, and Kindergarten Lifestyle). These blogs are some of my favorites! I would love if you could take a minute to vote for me by clicking on the picture below. You can vote all this week (starting today at 10:30) and voting ends Friday. Thank you so much to everyone who voted and congrats to Miss Kindergarten for winning!!
For helping me out by voting, I've got two more freebies for you. We use Beverly Tyner's small group model at my school (which I LOVE if I haven't mentioned before!!) and for the first 5 weeks of school, we do alphabet lessons that introduce all the letters of the alphabet. I "fixed" some of the centers I used for this and you can get them by clicking below (I have them broken up by the letters included in each week). I hope you are able to use them!

Also, congrats to Danielle...I will be sending you your packs! Have a great week everyone :).

  13. We use her book, Small-Group Reading Instruction: A Differentiated Teaching Model for Beginning and Struggling Readers. It comes with a CD with all the word sorts, picture sorts, and sight words that you need. I am not actually sure if she has a book that goes through the first 26 alphabet lessons, but I want to say the pictures for those lessons are also on that CD (I will look and check). She modeled the 26 lessons when she came to do an inservice with us. If you're interested in how they work, you can email me and I'd be glad to give you more info :)

  20. I love your blog and your great ideas! Thanks for sharing your letter sort. Just wondering, how do you cover the alphabet in 5 weeks? I've never heard of the model you use. Our Kdg does a letter/week so the alphabet is stretched out over most of the school year.

    1. Hi there! Thank you so much! We use Beverly Tyner's small group model at my school and I LOVE it!! We do most all of our phonics and phonemic awareness, so we do a a letter a day (with 5 focus letters in a week that we go over each day in small group) for 26 days. Then, we assess and the kids who score 80% or better on a letter production test and 80% or better on beginning sound production move on and start doing digraphs and blends in their group. The kids who score 80% or better on letter production, but not beg. sounds go back through the alphabet with a focus on beg. sounds. The kids who score less than 80% on letter production go back through the alphabet. That's probably really confusing, but basically after these 26 lessons, my 3 groups are all doing something different as far as phonics, phonemic awareness, and sight words. :)
