Our school implemented common core in kindergarten this past year and I LOVED it! I truly think it has made such a difference in the way my students think about their learning. They are really able to explain their thinking and reasoning, both in language arts and math. I also love that the standards focus on really getting deep into a few key areas rather than trying to cover so many things that the kids never really have a chance to do any deep thinking. For example, in kindergarten the focus is on number sense in math (no more money, time, etc. that were only covered a *little* bit). Next year, our first grade will begin implementing the standards. Have you taught the common core standards yet? How do you feel about them? I would love to hear your comments!
I love that you did this with different fonts. Thanks so much for sharing!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!! We are implementing them in first grade for the first time next year so I could use all the resources that I can get. I think that it will end up being a very positive implementation once everything comes together & look forward to learning more about it. :)

Learning Is Something to Treasure
Hopefully I'll have more throughout the summer...the lesson plans we're working on are all K-2 and for common core :)
DeleteWe have! This was our 2nd year implementing Common Core for Math. We adopted Math in Focus 2 years ago and it helped so much! The first year the K program kind of stunk...but they changed it and challenged them a lot more! We really like it and can really tell the students "know" math instead of memorize it.

I love the emphasis on numbers and place value with the teen numbers. I wish my 2nd grade son had learned this. I think it will be so much easier for them to understand regrouping!
ReplyDeleteI wish and wish so much we would adopt the common core. I am glad you liked it. :)
ReplyDeleteWe implemented CCSS in kindergarten this year and I loved it! I truly feel after this year that my kids know what a teen number is (they can compose and decompose!). I hope the first grade teachers see the difference.

Thank you so much for the 120 charts. Do you by any chance have a blank one without the numbers filled in?
