So, I had everything ready to finish up showing you all our fall fun Friday, then I left my stinkin jump drive with my pictures at school and since I live 35-40 minutes away, the fun had to wait until today. :)

We finished up our week by making these cute scarecrows {a cute freebie from Mynda Rivera on TpT!!} to hold our tree maps we made about scarecrows.

I've had quite a few people ask how I have my class writing so early in the year, and let me explain that I'm not Super Woman!! We do this TOGETHER! We come up with what we want on our chart and then they copy what I write, so it's almost like a handwriting lesson also (which we rarely get). I don't stress over what it looks like right now though, and here are some examples to prove that.

And that's ok!! One of my favorite parts of teaching kindergarten is seeing how different the kids' abilities in different areas are at the beginning and to watch their growth.

We also used our fall/scarecrow theme in math last week as we worked on the number 6.
We started on the number line by singing our 6 Black Crows song that Deeanna made up. I let one student wear my jean jacket and an old straw hat to be the scarecrow while other students were the crows being shooed away. The kids had a blast!

We also sang our 6 black crows song and made equations to decompose 6.

We used leaves to practice adding one more on the ten frame as well as making equations for 6 {using double sided leaf manipulatives}

We have been super busy this week with all things fall! Last weekend really got me in the mood for our fall theme this week since the weather here was actually in the 70s (but back up to 80s this week!). Here's a VERY random look at what we've been doing:

Our story from the reading series this week actually had nothing to do with fall, but I'm going to show you what we did with it anyway. We read The Handiest Things in the World then discussed all the the things from the story that hands can do as well as some things we can do with our hands. Then we each wrote our own sentence and attached our handprints to it.

We also read There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves and the kids loved going back to check the book to make sure we were right when we did our sequencing! This is a freebie here and if you like it, be sure to check out my other fall sequence activities.

We read a informational story about fall then charted all the things we can think of that happen in fall {and yes, The Peanut Festival is the one we're most excited about!}. We painted some leaves to hold our bubble maps.

We also went on a little nature walk to observe fall changes...the kids loved it! It's the little things people!!

During workshops, we've been loving our new fall centers!
A few of my groups are ready for sounding and blending {one of the many reasons I'm a fan of teaching most of our phonics in small group and not everyone working on the same skill!}. They loved matching words to pictures then writing the words!

So engaged!! I love it!

We're also practicing beginning sounds with this roll and cover game. The kids get a kick out of using the candy corn erasers to cover their pictures!

The other big hit this week has been a little sensory tub! I've gotten inspired to keep a sensory tub going all year long, so I'm going to let you hold me accountable on that! I mixed some leaf cards in with some fake leaves and the kids pick a card out, then color the leaf that is the lowercase match of the letter they picked. They loved it!

We had such a blast last week finishing up our unit on apples! The kids were so excited Friday when they were able to tell people around the school all they learned!
We learned about how an apple grows.

We also made these cute apples from Jennifer at First Grade Blue Skies. They held our circle maps that had apple adjectives. {Hers are cuter with raffia, but I didn't have any! :( }

Thursday, we learned all about Johnny Appleseed by reading books and watching a little video that I rememeber watching as a child. We wrote facts about Johnny then made these cute Johnny Appleseeds using Cupcake's pattern. {Click here to grab it}.

We also used apples all week to help us in math. We reviewed the number five and worked on decomposing, equality, and subtraction.

We used these with our Five Red Apples song to act out the song on a number line.

We used math sticks again this week with our song to decompose 5 a different way

As a quick check, we glued apples to make equal groups

We used apples (beans painted red) to act our song and introduce subtraction
