So, we only have 1 more day until we are out for spring break and I think the kids are just as ready as I am. We all need a little break! I am hoping the weather cooperates...it's only 60 degrees here, which is cold for us southern girls!

We've been busy doing more Easter activities this week...

We read The Biggest Easter Basket Ever and discussed the beginning, middle, and end of the story. The kids all drew their favorite part and we decided where it happened in the story. We also did a little individual story map. This is still a little tricky for us right now, but I was pleased with the progress we've made!

We also read The Easter Bunny is Missing. To begin, I showed them just the title page and we made predictions about where we thought the Easter Bunny was. Then, we read the story and went back and sequenced the animals who tried to fill in for him as well as discussed why they were not a good choice. Then we did our own sequencing page.

This activity is similar to the activities in my sequencing packs, so I decided to make it a freebie on TpT to give you an idea of what the sequencing packs are like. You can download it for free here :)

In math, we've been doing some activities from my good friend Deeanna's new Easter pack {click here}.
Yesterday, we worked on subtraction story problems with the Easter Bunny and carrots. We worked on the promethean board first, then used manipulatives to work some problems together.

Thank you Squirrels for the inspiration to do math on our bellies!
If you're still needing some Easter activities, here are 2 graphing freebies from last year:

If you need some centers, you can get my Easter centers by clicking the picture below.
Or, if you need some non-holiday centers, you can get my Spring pack...

I would love to give these packs to 2 lucky followers...leave me a comment telling me what you did or are doing for Spring Break! :) I'm off to bake a bunny cake for our party!
We are having tons of fun celebrating Easter this week since next week we will be out on Spring Break (Yay!!). Here's a little of what we've been doing:

We read The Grumpy Bunny and made text to self connections. We wrote about what makes us grumpy and took these cute pictures to go with our writing.

"When my little cousin pulls my hair"

"My brother will kick me out of the bed"
We also read Bunny Trouble and used evidence from the text to chart the characteristics of Ralph. Then, we made our own Ralph and listed his characteristics on the soccer ball. This is from my friend Deeanna and should be in her TpT store tonight.

We also started some new workshops this week:
Matching words to pictures using beginning letters as clues

Matching rhyming words

Spinning a word to see if it is real or silly

Determining beginning blends

Stretching short vowel words
You can get the Easter centers here in my Easter pack on TpT.
\What are you doing to get into the Easter spirit in your classroom?
Sorry for the lack of posting this week! When I left Monday, I didn't feel very well and when I woke up Tuesday, I was running a dang fever of 101! I never get sick and was so mad/sad/aggravated...and the crud kept me out of school for 3 days. Ugh. Luckily, my BFF at school Deeanna helped my sweet sub out and the kids got to do lots of fun St. Patrick's Day things.
When I came back today, the kids walked in to find our room had been trashed! They went crazy and immediately said it must have been a leprechaun!

We managed to clean things up and found a note from the leprechaun. We decided to make a little trap then go around school looking for him. When we got back, we didn't find a leprechaun, but we were able to find his treasure!
Anxiously waiting to see if we caught him

Our "gold"
Before we went looking for the leprechaun, we read a story called Looking for Leprechauns and wrote about what we would do when we found the gold. We attached our writing to our rainbow pots of gold.

We used our gold we got in the leprechaun's treasure to practice making teen numbers with a group of ten and a number more.
Happy St. Patrick's Day from us to you!

What did you do to celebrate in your classroom?
Every week, my kiddos get super excited for new literacy workshops and math centers. It is so much fun to see them so excited because I don't even think they realize how much learning they're doing when they're at the centers!
Here's what we're doing this week:
Working on real and nonsense words with word families

Beginning blends...these are giving us a fit this year!

Stretching words to spell them

Determining missing medial vowel sounds
Reading words to see if they are real or "leprechaun" words

Finding missing numbers

Working on matching numbers to 20 with the correct ten frame

Relating 3D shapes to real world objects...this is a freebie from Deeanna that you can get here

Counting objects and representing the number on a ten frame

I love this center and it will be out for a while! The kids work to match a variety of cards with the number they are equal to...this is from my friend Deeanna and you can get it here
We also started our St. Patrick's Day fun today by reading That's What Leprechauns Do. It's really a cute story that's a good introduction to learning about the legend of leprechauns. We created a tree map together then made these cute leprechauns to attach to our individual leprechauns.

These leprechauns came from Cara at The First Grade Parade

We also graphed wheteher we believed in leprechauns or not then did a little data page as a class.

You can get all the St. Pat's centers, tree map, and graph activity in my St. Pat's pack here.
I'm off to paint some "gold" for us to use in math tomorrow...hope your Monday was as good as a Monday can be :).
We have been staying busy this week reading more Dr. Seuss books and doing lots of fun activities. Here's what we've been doing:

We read Hop on Pop and reviewed rhyming words {these are still giving some of us some trouble} by playing a little find your partner game then using the cards to make an anchor chart. We also came up with our own rhyming words.

We also read In a People House and talked about labels and why authors use them .We made these houses that we labeled with things that can be found in our houses.
We also read Horton Hears a Who and discussed Horton's character traits. Each time the kids gave me a trait, they had to give their evidence why they thought it described Horton. This is still a little tricky for most, but the kids are getting better at each time we do it :). We also made our own Horton and wrote which of his characteristics we would like to have.

Tomorrow we're going to start working on our St. Patrick's Day centers. The kids LOVE when we get new literacy workshops and math centers! If you purchased my St. Pat's pack last year, be sure to go into your purchases on TpT and re-download them. I have put 2 new centers in it as well as re-done some of the activity sheets. If you would like to grab these centers, click on the picture below. I'll give one pack away to the first person to comment :).
